What is cheating the shot?
Sometimes we can cheat a shot by looking in a certain direction, that on camera, it looks like we’re actually looking at the person receiving the dialogue. Cheating the shot is far more common when shooting a scene in a film, than in a self-tape, however the next director you work with that asks you to cheat the shot in a certain direction, at-least now, you’ll know what he/she is referring to. Basically, all it is, is delivering dialogue to an eye-line, instead of a person. Sometimes cheating the shot can be more unnerving for the one reacting than the one acting.
