Introduction
Bounds Hands, is a Street Theatre project, intended to be performed on campus. Which is about the exchange and control of information; And how the latter blurs the line between public and private life. With kinds of 3 roles that performers can chooses to devise in relation to:
- Citizens: The Common consumers of society
- Providers: People who provide citizens services as businesses
- Arbiters: Government figure who rule over the above 2.
The Arbiters take control of exchange of information, transaction and how it be access, particularly in relation to protest and dissidence. Which lead to consequence for those below. Which result in their overthrowing. With the play bookended with burning of the recently passed Digital ID Bill that was impetuous for its conceptualization.
If this interest you more details, can be found in the below Pamphlet along with a link to an expression of interest of form (or after the FAQ):

FAQ
Where are rehearsals taking place?
I’m planning on doing rehearsals at Studio1 (190 Station Road Yeerongpilly QLD 4105).
https://studio1.org.au/
What times will rehearsals be taking place?
Ideally, there will be rehearsals during the Weekend. But Times and days will be influenced by your availability and my availability.
Who is Organizing this Street Performance?
Well to introduce myself, my name is Timothy Cook. I’m a self-taught playwright and learned composer. Somewhat new to the Brisbane scene, especially as a playwright. As I’ve only been writing plays for the last year or so. While I’ve been learning music via tutors since 2019 for comparison.
You can find me as a Playwright/Composer on facebook under my business, Labyrinthian Writings and Music. Using the link or OR code at the back of the pamphlet.
How will rehearsals work?
There will be three steps to the workshopping.
Collaborative Writing: participating actors and I will collaborate to write a script. This script will comprise various micro scenes that will play out at certain points of the outline. Which are assigned to different parts of the performing space, which compass one space like a public square or the entire campus. The sub steps of this would be:
Finalizing the initial performance location.
Assigning groups of actors to a particular part of the performing space. Based on role.
Writing the scenes themselves, which go through the below passes:
Pass 1: How they interact with the outline.
Pass 2: How they interact with other simultaneous micro scenes.
Pass 3: How they are influenced by arbiters if they intervene earlier or later than assumed.
Workshopping/Rehearsing: Actors will be memorizing that they’ve written and develop the scene in performance. However, after a point of memorization, the script should only be used as outline or reference for the performance to prevent it from becoming stale across performances or locations.
Performance: The performance is ready once the core scenes of the outline is memorized, and I am satisfied with the quality of drama at hand.
Is there a Risk to doing this kind of performance?
Yes, definitely; I as the organization or whoever is handling front of house type stuff, will have to let the administration of Unis know in advance that performance is occurring. Because, as likewise, individual performers may be arrested according to Flashmob or Busking Laws if unassuming spectators assume that we are disturbing the peace.
But the question I have for you, is if you are still interested in this performance out of protest or a sincere commitment to art. You need to put aside that risk averse mentality and aversion to embarrassment; if you are going to commit to this and take to the revolutionary effort of presenting this drama, for the erudition and entertainment of willing spectators. Because for every person that’s going to be annoyed or straight up hostile to our activities, there will be people captivated and bemused by the drama we’re performing in these very public spaces. It might even inspire them to participate and embrace it. Which in turn, gives them the push to consider what the bill is doing.
Is it insured?/how does insurance work?
As the group for the performance is non-permanent, insurance is on a per participant basis including myself as organiser/director. If your cover as a performer is void for performing in public without permission, please disclose this in the EOI form.
Is this related to your prior calls for Laboratory of Light and Darkness
No, this is operating under my business, Labyrinthian Writing and Music. As a non-commercial venture that I wanted to do through the business since I now kind of have capability to do so. compared to the muddled half-step between staged readings, workshopping and production for Laboratory of Light and Darkness. Which showed how unfamiliar I was with the theatre industry from a naive perspective as a still amateur playwright.
If there’s anything that carries over, it’s the connotation that a Laboratory of Drama has. as a place to devise theatre that doesn’t need to go beyond what the actor has of himself and what he can bring to it.
“The acceptance of poverty in theatre, stripped of all that is not
essential to it, revealed to us not only the backbone of the
medium, but also the deep riches which lie in the very nature of
the art-form.” -Jerzy Grotowski, Towards A Poor Theatre
